Chinese Medical Assistance Team Arrives in Sri Lanka


The third national medical assistance team dispatched by the Chinese government to countries hit by the tsunami disaster, which is comprised of 14 persons, arrived in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka at 11:30pm on January 2, 2005. After a short rest, on the very evening, they departed for the city of Galle in the southern part of Sri Lanka, which was worst hit by the tsunami disaster, for immediate relief efforts. Minister of Health Care and Nutrition of Sri Lanka Nimal Siripala de Silva and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Sun Guoxiang went to the airport to greet the team. Nimal Siripala de Silva expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for sending the team to help with the relief efforts in Sri Lanka. Sun Guoxiang encouraged all the members of the team to do their own bit for the relief efforts in Sri Lanka so as not to fail the trust of the motherland and the people. The experts of the team are from Beijing Disease Prevention and Control Center and Beijing Friendship Hospital.
