Hu Jintao Meets with Presidents of Senate and Chamber of Representatives of Morocco

On April 25, 2006, Chinese President Hu Jintao met respectively with Moroccan Senate President Moustapha Okacha and Chamber of Representatives President Abdeloughed Radi in Rabat and both sides held talks in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Hu indicated that the friendship between both peoples goes back to ancient times and becomes even firmer as time goes by. In modern times, both peoples share weal and woe in their fight for safeguarding state sovereignty and striving for national independence, and have established a profound friendship and laid a solid political basis for comprehensive development of bilateral relations. In recent years, their friendly cooperative relations have been advanced steadily and entered a period of all-round development. There is an increasing of bilateral exchanges at all levels with cooperative area continuously expanded and both sides have conducted sound consultations and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

Hu pointed out that under the current international circumstances, to develop China-Morocco friendly cooperative relations not only conforms to fundamental interest of both countries and their people, but is also conductive to peace, stability and development of this region. Since both countries are developing nations and are faced with the heavy historical task of developing economy and making the country powerful and its people prosperous, they can draw lessons from each other and seek common development. China would like to continue working with Morocco to consolidate and deepen friendly cooperative ties and bring benefits to both peoples. Parliamentary exchanges are an important part of bilateral relations and it is hoped that both sides will continue strengthening exchanges in governing the state, strengthening democracy and building a legal system, push for their respective political and economic development and make active contributions to strengthening bilateral friendship and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.

Okacha said that Morocco established diplomatic ties with China in 1958, just two years after the former's independence and historical facts prove that this is a correct choice. Both countries share friendly relations and bilateral cooperation has been continuously deepened in the areas of politics, economy, culture, science & technology and medical care. The Senate of the Parliament of Morocco is an active initiator for bilateral cooperation in all areas. Morocco hopes to maintain exchanges with the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in a bid to build up understanding and jointly push for development of bilateral relations.

Radi noted that bilateral relations have witnessed satisfactory development and the leaders, governments and parliaments of the two countries have kept friendly contact and cooperation. The Moroccan people thank for China's precious political and economic support. Both countries have made important contributions to world civilizations and the Moroccan Parliament will do its utmost to push for development of bilateral relations.

The two Presidents emphasized that their country resolutely pursues the one-China policy and supports China's grand cause of reunification. Hu appreciated this position.
