On February 28, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Diplomatic Adviser to the President of France Philippe Étienne in Beijing.
Wang Yi noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic relations, and both sides should carefully prepare for the high-level exchanges between the two countries within the year to lead the steady and forward-looking development of China-France comprehensive strategic partnership through leaders' meeting. The two sides should enhance mutual trust, build consensus, and constantly promote cooperation in various fields for new outcomes. Facing the complex and ever-changing international situation, it is necessary for China and France, as permanent members of the Security Council of the United Nations, to keep close communication, jointly send out the positive signal of upholding multilateralism, opposing unilateralism, safeguarding peace and stability, and improving global governance, and cooperate to tackle all kinds of challenges, in a bid to inject more positive energy into the world.
Philippe Étienne expressed that France and China are comprehensive strategic partners. The French side stands ready to, together with the Chinese side, take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations as an opportunity to well make planning and design for high-level exchanges between the two countries, advance practical cooperation, and strengthen multilateral coordination, so as to jointly safeguard multilateralism.
