Wang Yi said that both China and Africa are developing nations who share common interests, demands, aspirations and causes. No matter how the international situation has changed for past decades, both sides have always understood, trusted, respected and supported each other. In recent years, China-Africa relations have witnessed rapid development with frequent high-level exchanges and close cooperation in various fields. In particular, a large number of strategic cooperation projects have been smoothly promoted, which has effectively promoted the diversified development of Africa’s economy and effectively supported Africa’s attempt to improve its ability of sustainable development. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has laid out the establishment of a community with a shared future for mankind as the overall goal of China’s diplomacy in the new era. During the process of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the China-Africa community of shared future is an indispensable and important component. China is willing to make joint efforts with Africa to make China-Africa relations a model for unity and cooperation between China and other developing countries and a sample for South-South cooperation.
Wang Yi said that the AU is a banner for Africa’s unity and self-improvement as well as its integration progress. China has always viewed China-AU relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. In recent years, China-AU relations have enjoyed in-depth development. President Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages to the AU Summit for four consecutive years. The two sides have maintained close contacts at all levels, smoothly advanced cooperation projects and maintained coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China supports the AU to play a leading role in the cause of peace and development in Africa. China will work with the AU to strengthen strategic communication, deepen political mutual trust, devote to deepening cooperation with the AU in all direction, at all levels and in a wide range, continue to enrich the cooperation connotation of China-AU relations and constantly upgrade the strategic significance, demonstrative meaning and effectiveness of China-AU relations. China will focus on strengthening practical cooperation with the AU in the fields of the AU’s capacity construction, transnational and trans-regional infrastructure construction, peace and security, public health, tourism and aviation, and help Africa achieve peace, stability and independent and sustainable development. China supports and welcomes the establishment of the AU representative office in China and is ready to provide active assistance in this regard.
Wang Yi said that China and Africa jointly decide to hold the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) this September. China welcomes the AU to continue to play an active role under the framework of the FOCAC, and China will adhere to the principle of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith and the correct viewpoint of righteousness. China will also adhere to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits so as to well hold the FOCAC summit together with the African side.
Moussa Faki Mahamat said that the AU and African countries attach importance to developing relations with China. China-Africa partnership is based on the solid foundation of mutual trust, friendship, unity and mutual benefit, and will surely make great strides. China has provided African countries with sincere help for a long time and given the AU positive support in the areas of institution building, peace and security, and disease prevention and control, to which the AU expresses its appreciation and thanks. The successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress has established the development goals of China by the middle of this century, while the AU 2063 Agenda outlined the blueprint for the development of Africa in the next 50 years. It is believed that the development goals set by China will bring more opportunities for the AU to achieve the goals of the 2063 Agenda, as well as for Africa-China relations and the development of Africa. The AU is ready to work hand in hand with China and strengthen practical cooperation with China in such areas as trade, investment, personnel exchanges, and civil aviation exchanges. The AU thanks China for formally agreeing to the establishment of the AU representative office in China and believes that this decision will inject new impetus into the development of China-AU relations. The AU will firmly support that the FOCAC is an important platform for cooperation between China and African countries and believes that the FOCAC Beijing summit this year will strongly promote the development of Africa-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
