|Wang Yi Holds Talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana of Sri Lanka|
On October 30, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana of Sri Lanka in Beijing.
Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations and 65th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement on Rice for Rubber. Both sides should take this as an opportunity and combine the Chinese Dream with Sri Lankan Dream centering on the main line of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping to mainly enhance cooperation in five major areas including traditional friendship and political mutual trust, major infrastructure projects, trade and investment, maritime affairs, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, so as to forge a upgrade version of China-Sri Lanka friendly cooperative relations.
Wang Yi introduced the important outcomes achieved at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and expounded on the 19th CPC National Congress's great significance to China as well as its profound influence to the world. China welcomes Sri Lanka to participate in the building of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road in a more active manner and embark on the fast train of China's opening up and development, in a bid to jointly create a bright future.
Tilak Marapana warmly congratulated on the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress, and expressed that under the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC, China will certainly realize its stated grand goals, and walk in the forefront of the world. The Sri Lankan side expresses its gratitude for China's long-term support for its economic and social development and attaches importance to its traditional friendship with China. The country is willing to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Sri Lanka diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, so as to achieve common development.
After the talks, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana exchanged letters of approval for a mutual legal assistance treaty between China and Sri Lanka. Wang Yi also presented Tilak Marapana an important compilation of documents on China-Sri Lanka relations.
