|Wang Yi Meets with Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger|
On September 18, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger when attending the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and the US. Over the past 45 years, the development course of China-US relations has shown that cooperation is the only right choice for the two countries. Since the new administration of the US took office in the beginning of this year, China-US relations have made smooth transition and achieved positive progress under the joint efforts of the two sides. Both sides should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, increase strategic mutual trust, expand cooperation fields and properly manage disputes. Especially the two sides must make well preparations in all fields for President Donald Trump’s visit to China within this year at President Xi Jinping’s invitation to ensure the success of the visit, so as to promote China-US relations for bigger development and better benefit the people of the two countries and all countries.
Henry Kissinger expressed that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the US and China, bilateral relations have made historic progress, bringing tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples. Under the current situation, although the US and China have disputes over some fields, the two countries can completely and further establish cooperation habits and expand cooperation fields. It is hoped that both sides will not only solve some specific issues upon President Donald Trump’s visit to China, but also lay a sound foundation for the middle and long term development of cooperation between the two countries in the future.
Both sides also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and other issues.
