Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with President Donald Trump of the US


On September 18, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Donald Trump of the US.

Donald Trump first expressed that it is satisfying that the two heads of state of China and the US maintain close contacts and sound working relationships. Both China and the US have important domestic agendas this year. It is hoped that these agendas will run smoothly. He is very much looking forward to the upcoming state visit to China, and believes that this visit will give a strong boost to forward-looking development of the US-China relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that it is glad to keep regular communication on issues of common concern with Mr. President. China and the US share broad common interests. At present, exchanges and cooperation in various fields are enjoying sound momentum. Both sides should strengthen exchanges at high level and all levels, and well host the first round of China-US social and people-to-people cultural dialogue as well as law enforcement and cyber security dialogue, so as to expand cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The Chinese side attaches importance to the state visit of Mr. President to China within this year. Both sides should work closely with each other to ensure fruitful outcomes of this visit, injecting new vitality to the development of China-US relations.

Xi Jinping expressed condolences to Donald Trump and the people of the US through Donald Trump over the recent sustained hurricane hitting the country. Donald Trump thanked China for it.

The two heads of state exchanged views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula.
