|Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel of Germany|
On August 15, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel of Germany at request. Both sides mainly exchanged views on the current Korean Peninsula situation.
Wang Yi said that under concerted efforts of all parties, the tensions on the Korean Peninsula have shown some signs of easing. However, the "August crisis" has not ended yet and all parties should make joint efforts to resolve the issue. China insists on a peaceful solution to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. All parties should make a correct judgment and wise choice by taking a responsible attitude toward history and the people. China is willing to see Germany play an active role in this regard.
Sigmar Gabriel said that the lessons of Europe in the past were painful, and all parties should earnestly learn from it to prevent the situation on the Korean Peninsula from spiraling out of control. Expressing appreciation and gratitude for China's important role in the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Germany understands and supports China's "suspension for suspension" proposal, and stands ready to work with China to continuously call on all parties to strive to promote a peaceful settlement of the issue.
