|Li Keqiang Meets with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines|
On the afternoon of June 30, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines, who was in China for an official visit.
On behalf of the Philippine government and President Rodrigo Duterte, Alan Peter Cayetano firstly expressed condolences to the victims and the injured during the high-mountain collapse in Sichuan. Thanking the Philippines for the condolences, Li Keqiang expressed that the Chinese government is sparing no efforts in well conducting the disaster relief and relevant follow-up work.
Li Keqiang said that China and the Philippines are neighboring countries separated by the sea, with more common interests than disputes. The restoration of bilateral relations back to the development track featuring good-neighborliness and friendliness serves the fundamental interests of the two countries, as well as is conducive to regional peace and stability. The Chinese government supports the Philippines' efforts in national construction, economic development and maintaining stability, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Philippine side to adhere to mutual respect and equal treatment, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen cooperation in major fields such as infrastructure construction and others, and intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to enable the development of China-Philippines relations to better benefit the two peoples.
Li Keqiang pointed out that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an important and preferential direction of China's neighboring diplomacy. China supports the Philippines' works as the rotating presidency of the ASEAN this year, and the Philippines' efforts in well hosting the series Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation. On the basis of comprehensive and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and the agreement on the framework of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, China is willing to, together with all relevant parties, continuously advance dialogue and consultation, and conduct mutual-beneficial cooperation, in a bid to jointly safeguard peace, stability and prosperity in the region. It is hoped that the Philippine side to continuously play a positive role in promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations.
Alan Peter Cayetano said that the high-level exchanges between the Philippines and China have laid a solid foundation for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. The Philippine side sincerely appreciates China for providing support and assistance and stands ready to further deepen Philippines-China relations, and expand cooperation in all fields. As the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, the country hopes to make efforts to push forward the development of ASEAN-China relations, well host the series Leader's Meeting on East Asia Cooperation, so as to jointly send a positive signal of safeguarding regional peace and stability.
