Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines

On June 29, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines.

Wang Yi said that since the overall turnaround of China-Philippines relations, bilateral relations have enjoyed stable development along the right track of good neighborliness and friendship, with constant and positive outcomes from cooperation in all fields. The facts have proven that the adherence to good neighborliness and friendship is the only correct choice that conforms to the interests of China and the Philippines. Both sides should continue to summarize experience, well implement important consensus reached by leaders of both countries on developing China-Philippines relations, comprehensively deepening cooperation, properly handling maritime issues and other issues, and continuously insist on resolving relevant issues through dialogues and consultations, so as to push China-Philippines relations for stable and healthy development. China is willing to, together with the Philippines, deepen practical cooperation in anti-drug law enforcement, infrastructure, economical and trade investment, agriculture, fishery, poverty alleviation, and other fields. Both sides shall constantly tap potential during the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and enhance integration of development strategies, in a bid to achieve common development and prosperity for the two countries. The Chinese side will continue to support the Philippines to well manage relevant work as the rotating presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in order to jointly push forward the development of China-ASEAN relations and support the sake of East Asian integration.

Alan Peter Cayetano expressed that the Philippine side is glad to see the improvement of Philippines-China relations. President Rodrigo Duterte's attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation this May in China is of great significance for the Philippines and the whole region at large. The Philippine side thanks China's understanding and support to cooperation in drug control, counter-terrorism, infrastructure, investment and other fields, cherishing the mutual trust and friendship between the country and China, and hopes to further enhance bilateral high-level exchanges and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields under the "Belt and Road" framework. The country will be committed to dealing with maritime issues through dialogues and consultations, so as to forge solid, ever-lasting and robust Philippines-China relations.
