|Yang Jiechi Meets with Speaker of House of Representatives Paul Ryan of the US Congress|
On June 22, 2017 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Washington D.C with Speaker of House of Representatives Paul Ryan of the US Congress.
Yang Jiechi conveyed Chairman Zhang Dejiang’s greetings to Paul Ryan. Yang Jiechi said that since the Mar-a-Lago meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, the relationship between China and the US has achieved new important and positive progress, with close bilateral high-level communication, constant advancement of exchange and cooperation in various fields The two countries have maintained effective communication and coordination on major international and regional issues. Such gestures are in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, as well as being widely acclaimed by the international community. Under the current situation, China and the US enjoy broader areas that are in need of cooperation and possible for cooperation. China is willing to make joint efforts with the US to earnestly implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, and enhance exchanges at high-level and across all levels. The country stands ready to expand cooperation in various fields as in bilateral, regional and global levels, and handle and control disputes and sensitive issues with constructive methods, so as to press ahead China-US relations for healthy, stable and progressive development.
Yang Jiechi pointed out that exchanges between the legislative bodies of China and the US bear important and positive significance to push forward the development of bilateral relations and to deepen the friendship between the two peoples. On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker of the US Congress, exchanging views on China-US relations and the international and regional issues of common concern.
