|Wang Yi Holds Talks with Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz of Pakistan|
On June 24, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Islamabad with Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz of Pakistan, who is in charge of diplomatic work.
Wang Yi said that Pakistan is China's all-weather strategic and cooperative partner. This kind of bilateral relations are fairly unique in China's foreign relations, and have gone through the test of history, wind and rain. The Chinese side is willing to, together with Pakistan, strengthen strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and safeguard the common interests of both countries. Combating terrorism is an important content of China-Pakistan all-weather strategic and cooperative partnership, China thanks Pakistan for its firm support to fight against the violent terrorism of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement. Being at the forefront of anti-terrorism, Pakistan has made important contributions to the cause of international anti-terrorism for many years.
Wang Yi expressed that the tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan does not conform to respective stability and development, and also goes against the domestic reconciliation process and regional cooperation in Afghanistan. It is hoped that Pakistan and Afghanistan could meet each other half way, make efforts to improve bilateral relations, and send out positive signals to the international community, in a bid to show that both sides stand ready to reestablish mutual trust and conduct cooperation through bilateral channels. China supports Pakistan and Afghanistan in setting up a crisis management mechanism at an early date to properly handle various kinds of emergencies, and in establishing a trilateral meeting mechanism of Foreign Ministers of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan to enhance dialogues and cooperation in various fields.
Sartaj Aziz said that recently, violent terrorist attacks occur frequently, making international anti-terrorism situation tougher. Deeply plagued by terrorism, the Pakistani side stands ready to make greater efforts with the international community to jointly combat all forms of terrorism. Pakistan is willing to strengthen contacts and improve relations with Afghanistan, and support political reconciliation process in Afghanistan, which completely conform to the common interests of both sides. The Pakistani side has already made a series of political and diplomatic efforts, and hopes to reactivate relevant dialogue mechanisms and channels, which requires the two sides to meet each other half way. Pakistan is willing to, through consultation, establish trilateral meeting mechanism of Foreign Ministers of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan and a crisis management mechanism between Pakistan and Afghanistan, enhance dialogue and cooperation, and properly handle differences.
