|Foreign Minister Wang Yi Attends the SCO Day Reception|
On the evening of June 14, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended upon invitation the reception of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Day held by SCO Secretary-General Rashid Olimov.
In the speech, Wang Yi said that the reception bears unique significance, as the big family of the SCO has two new members, India and Pakistan. The Astana Summit held not long ago has achieved fruitful outcomes, during which the effect of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has been expanded and enlarged, new members have been admitted into the SCO for the first time, and the important documents such as the SCO Anti-Extremism Convention were signed. President Xi Jinping explicitly expounded the development direction of the SCO in the next step as "stay true to our mission, advance with the times". China has taken the rotating presidency, and hopes to get the strong support from all member states and friends from different circles. China will uphold the Shanghai Spirit and earnestly fulfill its responsibility as the presidency, plan and host 58 large scale events and hundreds of supporting activities, promote the signing of nearly 20 commercial contracts and work together with all member states to propel the SCO cooperation in the six major areas of politics, security, economy, people-to-people and cultural engagement, external exchanges and mechanism construction for new achievements.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Olimov expressed in his speech that heads of the member states made a historical decision to admit India and Pakistan as SCO official members at the Astana Summit, opening up a new chapter for the SCO. It is believed that China will lead the organization to achieve more development after taking the presidency, and the eight member states will jointly devote to creating a better future for the organization under the guidance of Shanghai Spirit.
More than 300 people including relevant foreign diplomatic envoys in China, representatives of international organization in China, and Chinese attendees from relevant ministries and commissions, academic, cultural and business circles were present at the reception.
