Wang Yi Meets with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat of Pakistan

On June 14, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat of Pakistan, who was in China for the 12th China-Pakistan Defense and Security Consultation.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Pakistan are as close as brothers, and always provide each other with firm support on issues concerning respective core interests. Appreciating Pakistan’s special arrangements in cracking down the terrorist forces such as the East Turkistan Islamic and protecting the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as well as the safety of Chinese personnel in Pakistan, China is willing to fully cooperate with Pakistan to push forward the CPEC construction for stable and rapid development.

General Zubair Mahmood Hayat noted that Pakistan and China are iron brothers sharing common destiny. Fully supporting the “Belt and Road” construction, Pakistan commits to pushing forward the CPEC construction for a success, and will mobilize all necessary resources to well safeguard the safety of Chinese institutes and personnel in the country. The Pakistani side adopts a zero-tolerance policy towards extremism, separatism and terrorism, and stands ready to carry out cooperation with countries in the region so as to jointly fight for a victory in fighting against terrorism.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Afghan issue, regional situation and other topics.
