Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Newly-appointed Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana

On June 7, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the newly-appointed Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana.

Wang Yi welcomed Jose Santiago Sta. Romana to assume his new post in China, and expressed that since the improvement of China-Philippines relations, both countries have continuously deepened mutual trust, and actively carried out maritime dialogue and cooperation, and achieved fruitful early harvests from practical cooperation. China’s friendly policy towards the Philippines is firm and clear. It is believed that the Philippine government’s policy towards China is a long-term and stable one. Both sides should meet each other half way, deepen cooperation and bring more tangible cooperation outcomes to the two peoples. China will continue to support the Philippines to better assume the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations this year.

Jose Santiago Sta. Romana expressed that he felt honored to take up the post of Philippine Ambassador to China on the occasion of the rapid development of bilateral relations. The Duterte administration firmly upholds an independent foreign policy, and staunchly develops good-neighborliness and friendly cooperative relations with China. The Philippine side will downplay the disputes, focus on cooperation and well host the series meetings of East Asia cooperation this year. He is willing to make joint efforts with China to push Philippines-China relations for greater development during his tenure.
