Li Keqiang Meets with Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez of the Philippines

On the afternoon of May 19, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez of the Philippines.

Li Keqiang expressed that the development of good-neighborliness and friendly relations between China and the Philippines conforms to the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, and benefits peace, stability and development of this region. China is willing to, together with the Philippines, deepen political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, intensify exchanges at all levels and in various fields, continuously expand common interests, properly solve differences and consolidate the public opinion foundation for bilateral relations to back to the normal track, so as to make bilateral relations keep developing in a healthy and stable direction. It is hoped that legislative institutions of both countries could enhance communication and cooperation, and contribute more to promoting bilateral friendship.

Li Keqiang pointed out that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). China supports the Philippines' various works during its tenure as the ASEAN rotating presidency, and is willing to work with all sides to push China-ASEAN relations and regional cooperation in East Asia for greater development in the new period.

Pantaleon Alvarez expressed that both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Congress of the Philippines support the endeavor of President Rodrigo Duterte to improve and develop relations with China. As practical cooperation between the Philippines and China keeps achieving new results, this will help Asian countries to build consensus and carry out cooperation. He also welcomed Premier Li Keqiang to visit the Philippines and attend the series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation within this year.
