Chinese Mission Hosts UN MPAC Business Meeting

On June 24, the Business Meeting of the UN Military and Police Advisors Community was held in the Chinese Mission to the United Nations. Sixty-two military and police advisors from permanent missions of 52 countries attended the meeting. Ambassador Li Baodong, Permanent Representative of the Chinese Mission attended and addressed the meeting.

                 

Ambassador Li said that China places great emphasis on multilateralism and collective security, and firmly supports the leading role played by the United Nations in peacekeeping operations. Over the past 62 years, UN peacekeeping operations have made great contribution to international peace and security, and won the wide acclaim from many countries. At the same time, UN peacekeeping operations are also faced with many challenges. Member States need to strengthen communication and coordination and join hands to meet the challenges.

                     

 

Ambassador Li spoke highly of the unique role played by the MPAC in UN peacekeeping operations. He pointed out that the MPAC's valuable advice on the reform of peacekeeping operations was professional, instrumental and helpful, and its recommendations had made a big difference in promoting the sustainability of peacekeeping operations. Ambassador Li hoped that the MPAC Business Meeting would produce more valuable views and recommendations on the development of UN peacekeeping operations.
