|Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei's Remarks on Japanese Leader's Comments on the Diaoyu Islands|
Q: Japanese Prime Minister Noda told a congressional meeting on July 26 that the government would respond in a resolute manner, including use of the Self-Defence Forces, if an unlawful act involving any neighbor state took place in Japanese territory or waters, including the Diaoyu Islands, and that crisis management mechanism should be improved at normal times to prevent such acts from happening through diplomatic efforts. How does China comment?
A: The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islets have always been China's inherent territory since ancient times. Nothing can shake China's resolve and determination to safeguard its territorial sovereignty. China has expressed its grave concerns and strong dissatisfaction with Japan's extremely irresponsible remarks. Meanwhile, China has also noted Japan's expressed wish to resolve problems through diplomatic efforts. Japan should earnestly uphold the larger interests of bilateral relations and make concrete efforts to properly handle relevant issues.
