|Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Regular Press Conference on January 3, 2014|
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang held a press conference on January 3, 2014.
Q: Please update us on the investigation into the arson attack at the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco. Have you found out the perpetrator? Do you believe that the US authority's response has been adequate?
A: On the evening of January 1 local time, an arson attack took place at the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in the US and the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco respectively lodged representations with the US side in the wake of the incident, requiring it to conduct investigation as soon as possible, bring the perpetrator to justice, take effective measures to enhance the protection of Chinese diplomatic and consulate missions and staff in the US and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. The US takes this incident seriously and is conducting investigation. So far I have no further information to offer.
We will release information on the progress and result of the investigation in a timely fashion.
Q: It is reported that a sign was left at the scene of the arson attack, which read "human rights in Tibet". Does it indicate the relevance to the "Tibetan independence" force? Is this going to be a direction of investigation?
A: On your question, the case is still under investigation. We are not yet sure which organization or individual is behind the arson attack.
