Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying held a press conference on July 11, 2013.

Q: US Vice President Joe Biden said at the opening ceremony of the fifth China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue that cyber-enabling theft that US companies are experiencing needs to stop. What is China's comment?

A: Both China and the US are major countries with important influence in the world. A healthy and stable China-US relationship is of great significance to both countries and the whole world. When addressing the opening ceremony of the strategic and economic dialogue, Vice Premier Wang Yang said that the two sides need to hash out differences and manage disputes rather than politicize economic issues or make individual issues bigger. Nor should they allow any individual issue to shake the foundation of the steady development of bilateral relations. Both sides look forward to deepening mutual understanding, enhancing strategic mutual trust and promoting practical cooperation through the dialogue.

China has repeatedly stated its principled position on cyber security. I also briefed you yesterday about the first cyber working group meeting under the framework of the China-US strategic security dialogue. Cyber security is a common problem and challenge facing both the two countries and the international community. The two sides should respect each other and have equal dialogues so as to make cyber security a new highlight in bilateral dialogue and cooperation. Both sides agreed to enhance mutual understanding and trust through dialogue and cooperation, work out international rules in the cyber space and jointly maintain a peaceful, secure, open and cooperative cyber space.

Q: Ahmad Assi Jarba, the new president of the Syrian National Coalition, proposed a ceasefire in Homs and other places during the Ramadan and said that the Syrian National Coalition was prepared for that. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also appealed to all parties in Syria for a ceasefire during the Ramadan. What's China's comment?

A: China has noted relevant report. We welcome all proposals and efforts that are conducive to the end of violence in Syria and the political resolution of the Syrian issue. China appeals to all parties concerned in Syria to implement the communiqué of Geneva foreign ministers' meeting of the Action Group on Syria, end violence and cease fire immediately, positively respond to the proposal for a second Geneva meeting on Syria and launch a political dialogue as soon as possible.

Q: The DPRK and the ROK recently held negotiations on reopening the Kaesong industrial park but failed to reach agreement. What is China's comment?

A: We have noted relevant report. We believe that the improvement of relations and reconciliation between the DPRK and the ROK contributes to peace and stability of the Peninsula. As a close neighbor of the Peninsula, China always supports the two sides in improving their relations through dialogue and consultation. The Kaesong industrial park is a cooperation project that is beneficial to both sides. We hope that relevant parties could bear in mind peace and stability of the Peninsula, show patience and wisdom and properly solve relevant issue through engagement and dialogue.
