2013/03/05

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying held a press conference on March 4, 2013.

Q: It is reported that on February 28, a statement of the "Friends of Syria" meeting in Rome pledged more aid to Syria's opposition. What is China's comment on the meeting and its statement?

A: China always believes that political solution is the only practical way out for the Syrian issue. The top priority now is to push the Syrian government and the opposition to launch a political dialogue as soon as possible for a solution that fully reflects the will of the Syrian people and is acceptable to all parties in Syria on issues such as the formulation of a political transition roadmap and the establishment of a transitional governing body. We hope relevant parties in the international community will play a positive and constructive role to this end.

Q: It is reported that at least 40 people were killed and 100 injured in a bomb explosion in Karachi of Pakistan on March 3. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. What is China's comment?

A: China opposes terrorism of all forms and strongly condemns the above attack. We deeply lament the death of the victims and offer our sincere sympathy to the injured and bereaved families. China firmly supports the unremitting efforts of the Pakistani government and people in safeguarding national stability.

Q: It is reported that a tour bus overturned on a highway in Egypt's southern province of Aswan on March 2, killing one Chinese tourist and injuring another three. Please tell us more information and what China has done.

A: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Egypt attach great importance to the accident in Aswan of Egypt that killed one Chinese tourist and injured another three. Consular officials from the Embassy have arrived at the scene in time, providing assistance to the injured and assisting the bereaved families in dealing with the aftermath.

Recently, there have been frequent personal injury accidents of Chinese tourists overseas. The Foreign Ministry has once again alerted all Chinese tourists to their personal safety when travelling abroad.
