Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying's Regular Press Conference on December 21, 2012

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying held a press conference on December 21, 2012.

Q: The Israeli government recently announced several plans of building Jewish settlements on Palestine's occupied territories, such as East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the extremely sensitive "E1"area in particular. What is China's comment?

A: China's attitude on the Jewish settlement issue is consistent and clear. China is firmly opposed to Israel's construction of Jewish settlements on Palestine's occupied territories, such as East Jerusalem and the West Bank. We are seriously concerned about the Israeli side's announcement of building settlements in the "E1" area. China urges the Israeli side to avoid actions that could escalate tension and obstruct the peace talks between Palestine and Israel, take concrete actions to restore trust with the Palestinian side and make constructive efforts to push forward the peace process in the Middle East and safeguard regional peace and stability.

Q: Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly spoke of the social and economic development of China as well as China-Russia relations in a press conference the other day, expressing confidence in China's lasting social stability and effective protection of foreign investment, adding that with their relations on a high level and close coordination in international affairs, the two countries should continue to enhance cooperation in various fields, such as energy, investment, manufacturing and finance. What is China's response?

A: China has noted relevant report. President Putin's remarks speak volume for the Russian people's friendly sentiment towards the Chinese people and the high priority Russian leaders give to the development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

The Russian people have made remarkable achievements in national development over recent years, scoring social and political stability, sustained economic growth and constant improvement of people's livelihood. We are fully confident in the development prospect of Russia and believe that under the leadership of President Putin, the Russian people are sure to realize the grand goal of national development and revitalization.

With their relations at an unprecedentedly high level, the two countries have entered a new stage where they become important development opportunities and preferential cooperative partners to each other. China stands ready to work with the Russian side to earnestly implement cooperation consensus and agreements reached between leaders of the two countries, constantly enhance political support to each other, carry forward practical cooperation, especially in the fields of energy, investment, aviation, space, local exchanges, high-tech and other fields, strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges and further intensify coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, so as to boost China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
